  About Me

Here is a little bit about me. I am an Irish trained Registered General Nurse and have worked in various nursing areas throughout my career. I completed a Post Grad Higher Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing at the National University of Ireland Galway in 2003. Following same I have worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with the Galway Hospice Homecare Team. In this role I was responsible for delivering and planning a high standard of care for our clients who's ages ranged from infant to geriatric. As I have been involved in Hospice Nursing for the past 12 years I felt I needed a change. I have just moved to NYC and hope to settle and make a life here. I am a US citizen and have a SS number. I have excellent references which I can supply any potential employer with on request. I have experience caring for infants, toddlers and preschoolers and have also filled in on the occasion at a Playschool at home in Ireland for the owner/manager. I enjoy singing, music, travel, reading and spending time with friends and family. I have been awarded a bronze medal for public speaking and can play guitar and some piano. I have sang with the Galway Baroque Singers, an Irish choir for many years and we have traveled throughout Ireland and Europe singing as we go. I am told that I am patient, calm, responsible, fun, trustworthy, friendly and kind. I dislike rudeness, arrogance, bad manners and insincerity. I have a full clean Irish drivers license and plan to get a NYC license over the coming weeks. I look forward to hearing from you.

As a RN I have had specific training in the care of a child. I have also filled in at a local preschool on the occasion and have experience in caring for children up to the age of 5 years.
I believe that the care of a child should start with the basic physical needs like good nutrition, regular sleep/wake routine, attention to personal hygiene, and exercise. I understand the concept of and can cook a balanced age appropriate meal. Children like routine and structure so working this out with the parent early on would be something I would also focus on.
I would ensure that the child is supervised and feels safe and secure at all times whilst in my care.
I would encourage the child to be creative and enjoy learning in a fun way. I would praise good behavior and achievements to help develop self esteem while mistakes would be looked at as learning curves in a positive way.

Mari Gallagher
Mari Gallagher is the Nursing Director/ matron at Galway Hospice. I worked there from 2001 till Nov 2012. It was my decision to leave and my employer has given me the option to return in a year if I wish. Here is some of what is said in my written reference from her " Emer has very effective interpersonal and communication skills and works very well as a member of the Multidisciplinary team. She has a bubbly and pleasant nature and shows great compassion to patients and families in her nursing role. She is popular with colleagues and team members. Emer has demonstrated the ability to work under pressure and to work above and beyond within her department. Emer continuosly strives to achieve the highest possible quality of care. Emer has always been a very hard-working, conscientious, honest and reliable member of our staff. She has been a great asset to our organisation and I would highly recommend her for any employment that she feels competent to undertake"

Breda King Clinical Nurse manager
Breda King is the nurse manager of the Homecare Dept. at Galwy Hospice. Here is a quote from her written reference "She displays a genuine interest in client care, shows empathy for patients, family and carers and is always willing to help and support work colleagues when necessary. Comment from patients, family members and staff endorse this. Emer remains calm under pressure, and has valuable organisational skills which have been in evidence during the times she has deputised as manager in my absence. Emer is a very kind person and is someone who gives of herself in caring for her clients and supporting family members. She will be missed in the Department"
