  About Me

Imagine growing up in a family of seven AND being the middle of your siblings. Yes, we were a busy family, but I learned a lot from them. Throughout my teenage years I stayed busy in just about every activity. My main niche was in cheer & dance, theater, and academics, while working as a part-time nanny and at an ice cream shop. During my years at Northwestern College (Iowa), I continued to stay busy by working in Campus Ministry, as an RA, leading the cheer team, and choreographing dances. Because I love working with kids, I chose to major in Elementary Education and after graduation in May, I will be certified to teach elementary classes as well as K-12 Special Education.

In my free time, I like to stay busy reading, crafting, getting to know people, and staying active. In the past few years I have been able to travel and do mission work through Northwestern; last summer I worked with Afghan and Persian refugees in Europe. When working with kids, I like to make them laugh and find "teachable moments. " For instance, a child once wanted to make something for her mother and decided to give up halfway through. We talked about her mother's reactions to a half-completed gift and a finished one. Through the conversation, the girl decided to follow through with her mother's gift. Every now and then a movie, show, or video game is alright for kids, but I prefer to stay active with crafts, games, and mini trips.

  Work Experience & Education Background

2 years experience, 2 references
Like many teens, I have spent plenty of hours babysitting for families in my area. In college, I continued to work with kids by volunteering at an organization called The Bridge and for church groups. At present I am employed working for The Respite Connection, providing respite care for a family with two sons with Autism.

When caring for children, I like to keep things upbeat, fun, and interesting while staying consistent with the parents' routines and expectations. In the past, we have played games, made forts, imagined impossible scenarios, and gone for walks. I love to explore and find new things, especially with children (they find everything interesting. ). I am a quick learner and a hard worker.

Childcare experience within the following age groups:
Newborn - 3 months, 3 - 12 months, 1 - 2 years, 2 - 5 years, 5 - 10 years, over 10 years of age, special needs children, twins, triplets
Education/Training:
High School, Graduated High School or Equivalent, College, Bachelor's Degree, College Child Education Courses
I have been educated in both public and private schools. Most of my schooling was in a small-town public school. After high school I attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Northwestern provides a liberal arts education, so I have taken courses in many studies while working towards my Elementary Education degree. Upon graduation in May I will also hold a teaching license in Elementary Education with a certification in K-12 Special Education (Instructional Strategist: I).

Lacy Rowan
For a few summers spanning high school and college, I was a part-time nanny for Dustin and Lacy Rowan and their three children. The job was handed down to my sister because she could better serve the family as I was away at college.
