| I love taking care of children. My experience working, in many fields, far surpasses that of most 18-19 year olds. I began working to support myself from the age of 15, although I began volunteer work years earlier than that. With all the jobs I have had, that of childcare has been the most enjoyable and rewarding for me. Working with children makes sense to me. If I were to analyze the comfort I have working with kids, I would probably come to the conclusion that I have gathered an amount of work experience that does not match my age, which worries me, wondering if I matured too quickly. Working with children allows me to feel young. Even though I hold my position with authority and teach the kids I work with as much as I can, I love the time I spend with them, balancing the discipline with the type of care I pride myself in. The type of care that allows the children to relate to me, to rely on me as they should and can. I have worked in a wide spectrum of settings, and that leaves me with a freedom of perspectives that I know gives me an edge in childcare. From an upper west side day care, to a kibbutz preschool, to having my baby cousin take her first steps out of my arms one late night when I babysat for her, every single child I work with makes an impact on me. And with the care I provide, with the care I promise, I make sure to make an impact on them by being a positive role model and motivating them individually. |

| My childcare experience began at the age of 13, looking after my two younger cousins, 5 and 6 at the time, with the assistance of another cousin the same age as myself. I realized how much I loved taking care of those younger than me that early. I then volunteered at an environmental center that would have groups and classes of kids coming in, and I would organize events and lessons, and supervise the kids during them. I babysat for my neighbor's 5 year old and my aunt's two year old through my last two years of high school, and in the summer of my senior year, worked at a Montessori summer enrichment program, as a counselor for children 3-5 years old. In my gap year, my first 5 months were spent on a kibbutz, where my primary job was supervising a class of 3-6 year old kids in their scheduled playtimes. From that, one family asked me to tutor their children (4 and 7) in English, not as a part of my program, which I loved doing. Not necessarily in the field of childcare, but nevertheless helpful to the skills preferred, my last five months in Israel were spent volunteering in an ambulance as an advanced overseas medic, so I am CPR certified, which is a minuscule detail of the skills I developed from that experience. |
