  About Me

I am a recent graduate from San Jose State University received my BA in May 2013, in Child and Adolescent Development. During my last year, I was employed as a Teacher Assistant within a preschool setting; the ages ranged from 12 months to 5 years of age. The classroom I mostly worked in children were 3-4 years of age. Within my job, I was able to create lesson plans and activities that helped children explore and exercise the different developmental stages Physical, Cognitive, Emotional, and Social. I also had the opportunity to develop curriculum and activities that were age appropriate for their developmental stages. I enjoyed introducing children to art because you can implement a variety of other subjects such as math and science within art. I have also had volunteer experience with elementary aged children, whether that be as a camp counselor, assisting the teacher in the classroom or acting as a mentor.

At the moment I live at home with my mom and brothers. In my spare time I love to write poetry, read, be artistic and creative, spend time with friends and family, visit art museums, drink coffee and tea, bake and cook, take photos, and watch movies.

  Work Experience & Education Background

5 years experience, 2 references
For the past year I worked within the Child Development Center as a Teacher Assistant within a Preschool-aged classroom, a majority of the children being 3-5 years of age. At times I also had the opportunity to assist within the infant and toddler rooms. This job helped me to gain a more personal and in-depth viewpoint on what it means to act as an advocate to a child. My job consisted of being familiar with the NAEYC, ECERS, the Reggio Emilia Approach, promoting of diversity, assisting in activities, lunch preparation and naptime. This job also assisted me in being able to approach confrontational situations, adapt to a variety of different temperaments and developmental levels. I also assisted in curriculum planning in subjects Mathematics, Music, Art, Circle Time, and Literacy.

Cheri Reaves
• During my years at San Jose State University I was able to build a personal relationship with Professor Reaves. She was by far one of the most passionate, intellectual, and caring professors I met. Not only did she provide me with the knowledge and skills as to how an educational provider should interact and assist parents and families, but she as well provided me with wisdom when it comes to dealing with unexpected stressors that come into life. She always believed in me and stressed "To never give up".
