Safe, child-friendly college student seeking for an opportunity to make some extra cash over the summer with my experience. I began working with children through a volunteer program, Service Learning, at my former college, where I was given the opportunity to volunteer at both Berry Elementary and Harbor Elementary in San Diego. At these schools I assisted teachers of a class of 2nd graders. I often worked with an autistic student to facilitate the writing process for him at a decent pace. After my volunteer work I became a tutor for grades K-College. I obtained a position as a private tutor for my former college where I tutored a kindergartener for 6 months. It was a fulfilling experience. A year ago I moved to the IE in order to attend the University of California, Riverside as an English major. I enjoy reading and studying language, though for now I am only fluent in English and Spanish. When I first moved to Corona I was eager to find a job different from what I was used to until I was contacted through a tutoring website, WyzAnt, by my former boss who hired me to assist her two young boys of ages 3 and 8. For a year I have worked with the eight year old on his homework packets, but focused particularly on the reading and writing. The 3 year old I would engage in arts and crafts as well as reading and speech development. On occassions I am contacted by the mother to continue working with her kids or provide child care, but because the mother is spending more time at home, my services required by her are limited, and now I am looking for a full-time position.
I come from a big family with many kids and still growing. My immidiate family lives in San Diego while I reside in Corona with my grandmother so that I may obtain my Bachelor's degree in 2 years (it is my hope). Out of all the jobs I have had, working with kids has been the most rewarding. |

Work Experience & Education Background |

3 years experience, 4 references |
I began tutoring about three years ago through a program, Service Learning, where I had the opportunity to volunteer at Berry Elementary in San Diego and work with kids individually; I often worked with an autistic student to facilitate the writing process for him at a decent pace. After my experience with volunteer work I applied for a position at the Southwestern College Writing Center where I worked for about a year and a half. At the Writing Center I would tutor a variety of subjects in the different schools the college had to offer (Social Sciences, Arts and Communication, Language and Literature); i. e. anything that involved writing, reading, and composition. After a year I engaged in a program, Power Study, where I assisted a professor in two Reading Skills classes. I spent 6 hours a week in each class, so a total of 12 hours were dedicated to the students enrolled in these courses. At times, when I wasn’t working in the Writing Center, I made time to meet up with students individually to help out with classwork, academic advice, or other classes. Finally, after more experience, I applied to the T3 Program through the college, where I tutored a student in the kindergarten level for one semester. |
