| My name is Ju. I am from Thailand and currently working as an Au Pair in Bethesda, MD. I will finish the program in mid-July. My host family asked me to extend the 2nd year, but I am getting married. I take care of a 5-year-old boy and a 13-month-old girl. I really love them. I consider myself a friendly, fun, smart, adaptable, energetic, responsible and hardworking person. Also, I love to laugh, read and be around kids. I am also taking a certification class for child care. I think a nanny's job is a wonderful job since it gives you the opportunity to be a part of a child's life. I am sure that not only will I teach the kids but learn from them as well. Every day spending time with them would be enjoyable and the memories would be cherish for the rest of my life. I love being around kids of all ages. With older kids, you can do a lot more activities. But with younger kids, you notice and appreciate the little changes in them growing up everyday. I understand that each kid is unique and special in their own way. You can't really just treat them the way you want but you have to understand their personalities and adapt yourself to work with them. I don't discipline children. I explain the reasons why they should not do this, or that. I believe no child is bad. They just have difficult times sometimes. I enjoy doing all kinds of activities with older kids, such as doing projects, reading, going to the park, playing games. With infants, I make sure that their needs are taken care of : changing diaper, feeding, etc. I also help them with their development. I encourage them to crawl, vocalize, feed themselves, stand up, walk, etc. |

| With the current host family, I take care of a 5-year-old boy named Sander, and a 13-month-old girl named Cleo. A typical day starts by preparing breakfast for both kids. If it is Sander's school day (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), then I drive him to school with Cleo. After that, I will put Cleo down for a nap. While she is asleep, I do the kid's laundry, and clean up their toy area. When she wakes up, we will go to the park together. I am trying to get her to walk. She enjoys being outside too. When we come back from the park, we will have lunch together. I will try to put her down for a nap. If she doesn't go down, I will just play with her. Sometimes I read with her. We listen to some music together. When it is time to pick Sander up, I will drive her to pick Sander up with me. Once we get home, I will prepare dinner for Sander or sometimes for Cleo too, depending on what the mother wants. When Sander doesn't have school, we start the day with breakfast. Then, he will play by himself while I am putting Cleo down for a nap. While Cleo is sleeping, we read, or do projects together. After Cleo wakes up, we all will go to the park together. Then we come back, and have lunch together. Sander and Cleo will both take nap. If one of them doesn't, I will just play with them. After the nap, we all will play, or read, or go out to the park again together. |
