  About Me

Hello, I am Ellen.

Former naturalist at a state park that included a lot of children's programs. I have worked in an elementary school helping kids to read. I have raised 2 of my own kids. I have a BA in psychology (emphasis on early childhood development). I am seeking full time employment as a nanny. I love to pretend play, color. not so much into tv. I don't mind doing laundry, vacuuming, chores that need done to keep mom/dad stress free as possible (tidy up we pick up after ourselves). I am not OCD/the neatest person in the world. But I won't leave you with any messes from the day. I own my own car. I live in midtown Tulsa (new to area). I was a stay at home mom/military wife for 19 years. So I have hired sitters myself. I know the stress of late arrivals and messy houses. I would not do that to another.

I love to inspire kids to learn more and to do things out of the box. To demonstrate I'd rather hand a child a blank piece of paper and have them color on it than for them to color a picture from a coloring book following the colors that are recommended. Kids love hands-on. I promise you that I will never wear anything that would make me cry if they ruined it by playing outside. I hope to find a family that has some kids that love to draw, make up imaginary animals, glue macaroni to paper, roll down grassy hills, plant sunflowers, color with chalk outside, paint rocks, and read books.

One thing that I think makes me stand out is that I really am not judgmental. I took a ton of social work classes. I understand stress outside of the family can be a heavy burden. I understand that when you enter your home, you don't want to see it messier than when you left/kids filthy. You want to know your kids are safe, they are doing more than just watching Daniel the Tiger re-runs. I will be helping them with colors and letter sounds, or if older. having HIM/HER read to ME (they are the teacher) or having them teach me about what they learned in school. If you have 3 stacks of dishes at the sink and can barely get out of bed.. I will brew your coffee, push you out the door and get on the dishes when it is a safe stopping point with baby/child. I was a baby wearing/cloth diapering mama. I can help potty train girls (never tried with a boy). If it is a nice day I hope to have your child hopscotch, balancing on chalk lines and singing alphabet songs/letter/letter sounds.

While I am looking for full time position with a family, I hope to be available to many families for date nights too. So please feel free to contact me for those as well.

Let me know if I can be a blessing to your family.
-Ellen

  Work Experience & Education Background

10 years experience, 5 references
I have had two girls. I have bottle fed, baby carrier, play grouped with the best of them. I also sang lullibies (out of tune horribly really). I rocked, bounced and soothed. I have spent more time crawling around and peek a boo-ing than most women I know. For my associates degree I almost had enough classes for a certificate in early childcare development but had to move away so it is just a liberal arts degree (plus a BA in psychology with majority of my papers/research on early childhood, lifespan psychology, adolescent psychology). I throw this in to help show I understand what a child is and is not capable of doing during different stages.. and the challenges faced at each stage. I know kids act like they are older than they are.. but everyone learns from/strenghtens what they know from PLAY.

I have watched my friend's children but I have never had a paid position as a caregiver to a child. Although I have hosted as many as 12 girls at sleepovers during military deployments so that other mamas could get a break from time to time.

Childcare experience within the following age groups:
Newborn - 3 months, 3 - 12 months, 1 - 2 years, 2 - 5 years, 5 - 10 years, over 10 years of age, special needs children
Education/Training:
High School, College, Associates Degree, Bachelor's Degree, College Child Education Courses
Early childhood education classes.. short of just 2 classes for an Associates in Early Childhood Education. Instead that became a Liberal Arts Associates Degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu. Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Coursework included: Lifespan Psychology, Adolescent Psychology and Positive Psychology. Education classes included Creative Arts. This class brought me to realize that because a tree outside is not pink, it does not matter. The child can draw the tree any way it feels. The act of drawing itself should give joy to the artist. And instead of judging "your picture is good", it is sometimes better to compliment.. "ooh I love that orange, it is very bright". Kids can feel so judged/be sensitive. Outside of my degrees I have classes in: Suicide Prevention (military), Domestic Abuse, Child Abuse (this was taken because I wanted to become a social worker or domestic abuse court advocate). Furthermore I took classes in Substance Abuse Prevention, Individual and Group Counseling. I took these at night while working on my bachelor degree.
