  About Me

I am a CT State Certified K-6 Teacher and hold a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
Throughout the past nineteen years, I have been blessed with the great fortune of working with, learning from, and applying effective and positive pedagogical teaching and learning principals and theories from a countless amount of talented and well-respected educators and other various educational professionals. I have also been a nanny several times in the past.

Upon review of my resume, please note my extensive experiences. I am extremely conscientious, responsible, high-energy, and organized.

Throughout my career, I have and continue to privately tutor both general and special education students alike. I have also tutored students for free because my passion to have students believe in themselves and soar in learning is the ultimate reward. In fact, the mother of this particular student has composed one of the letters of recommendations I have with my credentials.
I can honestly say that I have worked with students from age one through adult in a multitude of settings who come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. In my spare time, I love to swim, ice skate, walk, garden, do music and art, and meditate.
I know I could be a magnificent addition to your family.

Cynthia Womack
Ms. Womack was the Principal when I was a Long-Term Substitute Teacher at Hamilton Avenue School in the 2013-2014 school year. Please see attached letter. To Whom It May Concern: It is with great pleasure I recommend Maureen Hammer for a teaching position in your school district. Ms. Hammer has served as a first and second grade teacher at Hamilton Avenue School this school year as a long-term substitute. She covered two maternity leaves in the same year and facilitated a smooth transition for the students in both classes as their teachers left for maternity leaves. During the year, she demonstrated a sincere commitment to student learning and the instructional practices in place at our school. She successfully implemented and executed a comprehensive approach to literacy that included guided and shared reading experiences along with the instruction of reading comprehension and decoding skills. The teacher created learning centers to facilitate small group flexible learning and incorporated higher order and critical thinking skills into all content areas. Hamilton Avenue School has a large multi-ethnic and economically disadvantaged student body population. Ms. Hammer often worked with challenging behaviors, but her classroom management and strong organizational skills minimized disruptions and misbehaviors that could have interrupted the educational process. Ms. Hammer always turned in paperwork, assessments and other required tasks on time and completed monthly and quarterly assessments to monitor student progress and make adjustments in her instructional practices as needed. She is extremely conscientious and takes great pride in her work. The teachers and administration analyze student work in reading and math on a monthly basis, and Ms. Hammer always came to these academic review meetings prepared and ready to share her concerns and initiate discussion about student learning. Ms. Hammer uses a variety of teaching styles and instructional methods with her students and maintains high expectations for all students, even her Special Education students who are mainstreamed into regular education classes. I am confident that Maureen’s abilities and professionalism will be an asset to your school. Please feel free to call me if I can be of further assistance to you in this matter. Sincerely, Cynthia L. Womack, Principal

We are writing this letter to give high appreciation to Ms. Maureen Hammer, a teacher of our daughter in first grade. Our child’s progress under Ms. Hammer has been tremendous. She is not only a good teacher, she is also very caring. She is very sincere and dedicated to her work. She loves teaching and the children. Ms. Hammer strives to create a fun, warm, and inviting classroom atmosphere. Her sincerity and support for each individual child has been the main reason for her students’ success in achieving an all-around education. Our daughter has become a better reader mainly due to Ms. Hammer’s influence and the way she applies different strategies. She helped our daughter gain the confidence needed to power through her reading insecurities. She uses innovative ideas especially identifying strengths and potential problems and difficulties which help her students holistically. We are so pleased with her way of establishing a good, warm, and inviting classroom climate, which affects children’s attitude and motivation towards learning. Our daughter talks about how Ms. Hammer motivates and encourages, inspiring her to work harder and be the best she can be. Ms. Hammer is very professional in doing her job, but at the same time nurturing and a mentor for our child during the good and bad days at school. She is really an effective motivator for her students, which in turn makes them achieve goals without making the learning experience feel forced. We as parents feel comfortable with the way Ms. Hammer keeps relationships between parents and teacher. Her line of communication with parents is fantastic; whether it is via phone, email or if a conference is needed. Ms. Maureen Hammer is a very good teacher. She has the compassion to handle children and that pleases us as parents. Sincerely, Michael and Michele Tierney
