  About Me

I have a lot of experience watching children ages 5months to 12 years while parents are either at work, work from home, or need their child taken care of while they aren't home. I have watched families of one child to families with 4 children, boys, girls, and twins. Besides the ordinary babysitting I provided school pick up, rides to activities, play dates, homework help, dog care, and light house cleaning for a family of five year old boy, girl twins, 8year old girl, and 11year old girl for the school year in 2011. When babysitting my top priority is safety for all, I promote having fun, games, arts and crafts, reading, being outside and not spending time in front of electronics or the t. v. I inquire with parents their ground rules and follow through with them when the child/children are in my care and keep an open line of communication with the parents. I stay in tune with the child/children's interests and needs, am patient, kind, caring, and creative to ensure a nurturing and fun environment.

I also have experience dog walking, customer service, and special needs care.

I look forward to hearing from you,
Jenn

IRONSTONE FARM, ANDOVER, MA Volunteer, working student, feeder, Aug 2005 Sep 2010 „h As a volunteer my main responsibilities were assisting the hippotherapy lessons by either side walking or leading. Side walking consisted of providing assistance for physical, occupational, and speech therapists with their lessons providing balance support for the client, engaging in games, songs, and puzzles to improve their motor and speech skills, engage in American Sign Language basic signs, assisting the client with riding skills; posting, trotting, stopping and steering, supporting the client with adjusting themselves into different positions on the horse; sit sideways, backwards, standing, kneeling, laying on their back or belly, assisting in different therapy approaches geared towards clients individual needs, helping the client connect with their horse and ensuring they're safe and happy during the lesson. When I would lead the horse I would still engage with the client but was less hands on as my main priority was to ensure the horse was on his/her best behavior providing a safe lesson for all. Outside of assisting with lessons I would set up tack, clear the trails and arenas of manure, brush and tack up horses, and be a reliable hand. When I was a working student and feeder my job was a little more intensive consisting of mucking the paddocks, feeding a herd of 30+, setting up for hippotherapy, English, and vaulting lessons, assisting riders in prepping for lessons, making sure therapists and instructors had what they needed for their lessons, keeping the farm neat and tidy, caring for the horses if they got sick, scraped/cut, lame, or lose, being an educated staff member in answering questions clients/visitors had, and being an active team player in working with the other staff helping the farm run smoothly. Being a volunteer coordinator involved making sure the therapy program had the proper helping hands they needed and guiding the volunteers in what role the program needed them to fill for that day. I was fortunate to be able to experience various events and learning oppertuniies at Ironstone farm. I volunteered with 3 different special olympics held at the farm, 4 breakfast with Santa where Santa came to visit to take pictures with visitors and horses and provided a free breakfast, a handful of Ironstone exclusive horse shows, 3 Boo Fests which were Halloween parties with a haunted house and games finished off with trick or treating along the trails, and many volunteer appreciation days. I also took basic ASL classes hosted by Jen Hayes to be able to better communicate with some of the riders, learned hands on by Bobbie Donovan, instructor and founders daughter, basic horse training skills and got to participate in training 3 green horses, and took 5years worth of lessons consisting of vaulting and English riding.
