  About Me

I am very conservative Christian. I am a laid back person, and don't get frazzled when things don't go smoothly. I am organized and responsible. I am an honest and reliable person. I love being around young children, it reminds me so much of when our children were young and how much I cherished being with them. I believe that I can help a parent nuture their children by teaching them how to care for others, by showing respect for their parents and other authority figures (unless they are abusive), respect for one another, for themselves, and for property.

I will reinforce your values and beliefs with your children and I will never try to take your place in their lives.

When our children were old enough to learn that wrong choices had consequences, they knew what to expect. The discipline methods were done quickly, not harshly, and were just as quickly forgotten. We had clear defined boundaries and consequences of any chosen action outside those boundaries.

As far as discipline goes, when they were obedient and kind, we praised them, and were very specific about it. We encouraged them to make right choices.

For younger children, distraction seems to work best because they are too young to know right from wrong.

I would never punish a child because of childish immaturity (ex. spilling milk, etc).

I don't believe in demeaning or belittling anyone, under any circumstances. I also don't use labels for children, such as lazy, dumb, etc.

What worked best when our children were a little older, if they were disobedient, was to take something they cherished away from them for a brief period of time. They knew ahead of time that this was a consequence, so it didn't surprise them. We'd just set the timer based on their age.

For older children, I would have them write in sentences that they are sorry for offending a particular person, and then write kind things about the person they have offended.

  Work Experience & Education Background

10 years experience, 5 references
I have never had paid experience, but I was a stay-at-home mother, for 18 years, for our three children, two girls and a boy, who are now 19, 21 & 23. I believe that caring for three children, who are fairly close in age, around the clock, has provided substantial experience for caring for your child.

I have got a good temperament for being around children for extended periods of time. I can provide as many references as you need, of those who have known me for years and have seen how I raised our own children. Our children were early learners, well-rounded, respectful, and have pretty much always gotten along well and are close to each other.

I have done occasional babysitting for friends and neighbors, without pay, also did after school care for a neighbor for about a year without charge.

Childcare experience within the following age groups:
Newborn - 3 months, 3 - 12 months, 1 - 2 years, 2 - 5 years, 5 - 10 years, over 10 years of age
Education/Training:
College, First Aid Training, CPR Training
I completed one year of college at a small Christian college in Atlanta, GA, with a emphasis in Christian Education. One of my education classes focused on learning the physical, mental, social, emotional & spiritual characteristics and teaching methods for all age groups and maturity levels. I believe play time and using the imagination is one of the best teaching tools. I enjoyed using music and art to also stimulate our children to learn. Of course, physical activity, as my mother-in-law used to call "getting the beans out" is equally important. Reading was always a favorite time for our family. Our children are still avid readers. At our church I have taught the toddler class, team taught a class of twenty 4 & 5 year olds, have taught a class of teens, VBS helper for the 4 & 5 year olds, before becoming church librarian. I have also been a camp counselor.
