I have grown older but as Peter Pan says, "I will never grow up. "
I have gained wisdom and experience but I am still learning. I still see with wonder and awe.
With my background in psychology and education, I see everything a child does as a learning experience and they learn so much more from success. Children want to have rules that make sense. It helps order their world. Babies and children are special people. We can learn so much from them. They need to feel safe and loved. They need to have fun but learn limits. They need to know why. They want someone to "see" them and approve. Everyday they are growing and, we can expect, changing. If we can try to stay a step ahead of their needs, the world is a much happier place.
Pick them up when they cry. Keep them well-fed. Provide stimulation and various types of activities. Follow their interests whenever possible. Make play enjoyable and successful. Anything is an opportunity for learning. Provide structure and have rules that make sense. Help them understand "why. " Try to stay a step ahead of their "needs" rather than responding to distress. |
