I am a person who loves children. I love to spend time with them, play games, go swimming, take walks, and more. I have a lot of patients, and love to teach children new things when I can. I am very organized and like to get things done in a timely manner. I am outgoing and love to try new things. I am a hard worker, but know when to relax. I have a very compassionate heart for people and animals, I love taking care of people. I am able to work in different kinds of settings, and am able to handle difficult situations well. One of my good qualities is that I am a great listener. I love to care for children and have fun. I am adaptable to what parents and children need me to be in different settings. When caring for children, they are my number one concern. I always pay attention to what they need and act accordingly. I am pretty laid back and have a lot of patients, but when I need to be strict I can be. I do not believe in hitting children when it comes to discipline. Depending on the age of the child I sometimes will make them stand in a corner, take a fun activity away for a certain amount of time, or talk to them about their behavior. I like to build good relationships with the children so that they can trust me and have respect for me. |

Work Experience & Education Background |
|
|
9 years experience, 4 references |
I have had a lot of different kinds of work experiences. When I was in highschool I would babysit children from our church, from a lot of different families with different age groups of children. I would also teach Sunday school, help with VBS, and help out with taking children on field trips. For two summers I took care of two girls during their summer breaks. We would go and do many different things like swimming, amusement parks, shopping, and much more.
When I was in college I have cared for a ten year old child with cerebral palsy. It was a live-in situation. I would meet her when she got home from school and help her with homework. I would cook her dinner, give her a shower, and help her get into bed. I would do stretches with her at night, and sometimes in the morning. I also had to hold her up while she walked. I had to give her medicines that she needed (including inemas), and keep a record of her urine/bm output. I would also use their wheelchair van to take her different places. When the family decided to move to California I moved out there for a month so that they could find another nanny, and I could train her.
I got my CNA license in 2005. After that I worked in two different nursing homes. I have a lot of experience with dementia and alzheimer's disease patients. I used lifts on the job, took vital signs, checked blood sugars, helped patients with their adl's giving total care when needed.
I worked at a hospital as well for a little over a year in the oncology unit and telemetry unit. I took care of patients that were very sick, getting chemotherapy. I also worked with heart patients as well, I had to hook up heart monitors, take vital signs, check blood sugars, and do patient care.
My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July of 2008. I moved back home to take care of him, running him to Indianapolis for doctors appointments. Helping him when he was sick. I had to make a schedule of his medications, which he had over 15, and give them to him. He had a feeding tube, so I was able to feed him through that and set the machine to run as well. He had a power port to which the nurses in Indianapolis would access, then throughout the week we would have to rehidrate him. They instructed me how to disconnect the power port at the end of each week. The last two weeks of his life he was in bed; I gave him total care so that he would be comfortable. He passed away in April of 20009. |
