  About Me

Most of my work experiences included working with adult clients who had chronic, severe mental illness. The work was heart breaking at times. When I worked with troubled foster children, I found that most children are resilient and open to change when in a loving environment. Art therapy opened doors to healing the mind and spirit of the children that I worked with. My greatest accomplishment is being a doting grandmother of a ten month old grandson. We laugh, play, read, tell stories/nursery rhymes, dance, sing, and cuddle. I have the ability to provide care for a child that includes cultural sensitivity, childhood development, socialization, and healthy attachments. My style of caring for a child is from the heart. Playing and having fun

  Work Experience & Education Background

2 years experience, 4 references
My accomplishments have opened the door to do art directives with children from the ages of 2-18 years old. Using art increased the child's sense of accomplishments and socialization. It became a window to assess family dynamics and made learning fun. We danced, sang songs, read stories, played outside, had puppet shows, and tapped into the child's imagination, leaving very little time for watching TV or using the computer.

Childcare experience within the following age groups:
Newborn - 3 months, 3 - 12 months, 1 - 2 years, 2 - 5 years, 5 - 10 years, over 10 years of age
Education/Training:
Master's Degree, Mental Health Counselor/Art Therapist
I earned a BA from The Evergreen State College. My aspiration was to earn a teaching degree. During my studies at TESC, I did some volunteer work in a high school and found that many students had mental and emotional challenges beyond learning disablities. I continued my education so that I could do mental health counseling using creative modalties. I worked with deeply hurt foster children during my Master's internship. My education emphasized my desire to help single mothers/children who have experienced abusive relationships and to be able to address issues associated with mental/emotional barriers.
