Although in my career the main focus was ensuring child safety in the home and providing services to the families, there were multiple occasions where this was not possible. During these times as a caseworker I would be responsible for the child(ren) until other arrangements could be made. This would be for periods of time ranging from an hour to an entire day and occurred most often in the middle of the night and outside regular working hours. As a foster care case manager I was responsible for the children on my caseload as if they were mine. I would take them to the doctor, deal with their schools, take them to events and wherever they may need to go. I am not currently babysitting for money; however, I have been doing so since I was 11 years old. The majority of my friends have children ranging from 2-17 and are single parents. I assist them/watch their children when they need me. I am currently attending school online to become an elementary school teacher and have been a substitute teacher since October.
