Hi. My name is Sonia, I am 21 years old and just graduated from college. I have since then moved back to the Richmond area and am looking to care for some great kids and aid them in their development.
A little bit about my childcare experience:
I started babysitting when I was about 13 years old. I cared for one family’s children for about 5 years on occasion. When I started they had one two year old, and by the time I stopped they had three girls.
During those same years, I also was regularly involved in church child care. This ranged from toddlers to preteens.
In college, I served as mentor to two young girls through a program called Big Pal Little Pal at the local Boys and Girls Club.
Last summer, I took a six week internship working for a child sponsorship program in Ethiopia. Daily tasks included teaching children English, feeding them snacks, visiting children in their homes and providing families with essentials, engaging the children in active play, and most of all providing lots of love.
I have also provided occasional care, sometimes one or two days at a time, for my now six year old nephew since he was a baby. This has taught me a lot about the everyday needs of children.
Some of my hobbies include singing and playing instruments (although I am not particularly skilled at either), watching movies, playing games (indoor and outdoor), swimming, having fun in the kitchen, arts and crafts, etc.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns :-)

Childcare experience within the following age groups: |
3 - 12 months, 1 - 2 years, 2 - 5 years, 5 - 10 years
|
|
Education/Training: |
High School, Bachelor's Degree |

I attended Victory Christian Academy in high school, and graduated in 2008.
From there I attended Lee University in Tennessee, and recently graduated with high honors. My major was Interdisciplinary Studies, which included four areas of study (Theology, Psychology, Sociology, and Intercultural Studies). The part of my education you would probably be most interested in is that I took a few psychology courses specific to children. These included Child Development and Child Advocacy.
As far as CPR and First Aid training, I do not currently have certification, but would be willing to get certified if that would make you and your family more comfortable. |
