  About Me

I am what most people would call a "people person". I am a fun-loving individual who is also responsible and maternal in nature. Besides the fact that I have both educational and professional training working with kids of all ages-from newborns to teenagers with mental needs-I also seem to naturally attract children to me.

As the eldest of fifteen cousins, I was afforded the oppurtunity to both baby-sit for various family members, and to take care of young kids full-time during the summers. There were times when I had to do all the cooking and cleaning, and would barely see the parents for days or weeks at a time. I was a live-in nanny for my family. And I learned basic childcare provision skills as a preteen and teenager.

Throughout college, I was a part-time nanny for a growing one-year old. I also baby-sat other children around the town in which I went to college, as I developed a positive reputation for caring for children. I also worked in a psychological clinic for troubled teens and young boys with mental illnesses. This job allowed me to work with children with special needs, thereby diversifying my childcare provision experience.

I am not simply seeking a nanny/baby-sitting position, but also an oppurtunity to positively influence young people. I hope I can inspire your children to be the great people they dream of being in the future. I prefer to train children to mature in their characters. What I mean is that I foster an environment of love, warmth, and comfortability with children, so that they can feel free to be open and expressive with me. I do believe in disciplining the child, but I believe that is the parent's responsibility. I am willing to give children a time-out, or chastise them in the most pacifist manner. Yet, when I discipline young ones, my goal is to explain to them the consequences of their behavior, and the reason they are being punished in the first place. In general, I prefer to have a loving bond between myself and chilren when providing childcare, and I try to foster an environment in which I can learn from them, and they can learn from me.

  Work Experience & Education Background

10 years experience, 5 references
As the eldest of approximately 15 cousins, I have ample experience babysitting. I was always a caretakeer growing up, and being apart of a large family provided me plenty of oppurtunities to learn how to take care of children of various ages. I also baby-sat professionally throughout college, serving as a pseudo-nanny for a growing one year old. Since that time, I have both babysat for and taught young people who range greatly in age: from newborns to teenagers.

Childcare experience within the following age groups:
Newborn - 3 months, 3 - 12 months, 1 - 2 years, 2 - 5 years, 5 - 10 years, over 10 years of age, special needs children, twins, triplets
Education/Training:
Bachelor's Degree, Graduated High School or Equivalent, Master's Degree, I am in the process of completing two master's degrees.
I am currently a graduate student in both the School of Social Work and the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. I completed my bachelor's degree in Anthropology at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. I spent most of my educational career at the esteemed University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My educational training has provided me with the skill set to understand people in an insightful manner. Since I am going into an antrhopological career, I have been trained to explore all sorts of cultures, and languages, and the human development process as a whole. I am what one might call a "people person".
