Hi, my name is Eliza S.. I am 22 years old and graduated from Bennington College this spring. I recently moved to New York City and I looking for a fulfilling and fun line of work while I study for my paralegal certificate. I love working with children, and seriously considered going into education before deciding to pursue advocacy as a career path. At Bennington I studied music (voice & piano), education and psychology, and had the opportunity to combine all three in my work with local high schoolers in Bennington. My love of adventure and finding new and challenging experiences has led me all over the world, and my time in Ghana teaching at local schools about hygiene and health and my work with a group of Costa Rican children developing theatrical productions were particularly powerful in allowing me to develop as both an educator and a performer. In addition to singing and teaching, I love spending time outside, learning new things and having adventures (I can't wait to explore the museums here), and cooking. |

Work Experience & Education Background |
|
|
3 years experience, 1 references |
In high school I babysat frequently for several families in my neighborhood. The majority of the children I cared for were between 5 and 10.
During my time in college, I have gained experience with both teaching and childcare. In my freshman year, I worked for several month with a group of 15 Costa Rican children ranging in age from 4-14 teaching English and helping them put on a theatrical production for their community. During my time in Ghana, I worked with a team teaching middle and high schoolers from several different institutions about health and hygiene. At Bennington, I mentored local high schoolers through both the Quantum Leap and the AmeriCorps Dream programs.
On the childcare side, I interned for a summer with a program for children with social difficulties in Burlington, VT. The entire group consisted of 30 children, and each child was given one-on-one support in what was essentially a summer camp setting. I worked with children ages 5 to 10, and gained extensive experience with providing positive and focused guidance for children with a variety of social difficulties. I also received training in Crisis Intervention Training. |

I attended a public high school in Evanston, IL. During my freshman and sophomore years, I attended Long Island University's 'LIU Global, ' a four-year-abroad program that focused on anthropology and community development. I spent my freshman year in Costa Rica and my sophomore year in India and Scotland. I then transferred to Bennington College in Vermont in order to pursue my interest in music. I graduated from Bennington with a BA, concentrating in psychology, public action (community development, education), and music. |
