Wanted: Part-time Mary Poppins for a special needs family
Our busy family needs a fun part-time nanny to provide occasional afternoon, evening, or weekend childcare as well as to occasionally stay overnight with our three children.
Our children at home are aged 11 (boy), 13 (girl), and 18 (boy who has special needs). Our two younger children are fun and active; they need basic supervision as well as help with homework on school nights. Our older son is adorable and sweet, and he needs special care.
About our older son:
He is happy, easygoing, and absolutely precious. He has a seizure disorder, he is incontinent, he is non-ambulatory (he has a wheelchair), and he is non-verbal. Although he understands perfectly everything we say, he is unable to communicate with us verbally or through sign language.
His physical situation appears much like cerebral palsy; he is 18, but of small stature (he wears a boys' size 12-14, very slim). His care will require G-tube feedings and care for all of his personal needs, including administering medications, diapering and changing clothes, brushing teeth, etc. Nanny must be able to lift him to care for his personal needs as well as to transfer him between his wheelchair and his bed.
His care is not medically complicated. We have no formal medical training, and we have been able to care for him very well. G-tube feedings are not difficult; we can teach the process to anyone.
Our nanny must be comfortable with taking care of his needs as well as those of our younger son and daughter overnight. Our younger children are hilarious, and they adore our older son. We do not ask them to help with his personal needs; we are very intentional about preserving their normal sibling relationships.
This position will entail occasional afternoon or evening babysitting (as needed) and occasional weekend overnights, as well as for a longer trip (possibly a week) in January. We want to find the right person (or people) and begin with several visits of regular afternoon or evening sitting/nanny sessions and work our way up to overnight trips starting immediately.
We need to find the right person to begin this process immediately.
