I am looking for a patient, experienced Mother's Helper who can assist my son's mother with my son's needs during daytime, weekday hours--7:00 am to 5:00 pm for 20-30 hours a week.
My son is three years old and has a feeding delay. He requires occupational therapy and feeding therapy services and has regular doctor's appointments with different specialists that manage his case. As part of his therapy, he participates in several classes and activities (swimming, music class, gymnastics) and we schedule regular Occupational Therapy exercises at home which incorporate sensory, tactile, vestibular, and proprioceptive play opportunities. These scheduled exercises are very enjoyable but need to be administered in a specific, therapeutic way.
My son's mother has some chronic health conditions which limit her in her ability and mobility. She too has several doctor's appointments and regular activities that help her manage her health.
For a Mother's Helper we will need someone who can:
-Ready my son for appointments and put him in his car seat
-Drive my son and mother to appointments
-Occasionally sit-in occupational and feeding therapy appointments
-Ready a pre-made lunch for my son
-Assist with naps, potty training practice, diaper changes
-Engage my son in occupational therapy exercises, using specific therapeutic methods and styles
-Help his mother engage my son in meals and snacks, using specific therapeutic methods and styles
-Follow a detailed schedule that responds to my son's ability to self-regulate
-Assist in any light housework or heavy lifting that my son's mother cannot do (dishes and laundry mostly)
To succeed in these duties, we are looking for someone who:
-is patient and creative with managing a sometimes willful toddler
-can take and follow very specific directions about how to enact certain procedures
-can use specific language and a calm, playful, supportive tone during therapy activities and meals
-can patiently assist my son in activities that other children his age might do independently
-can follow a detailed schedule, but also adjust to sudden changes
-is familiar with the procedures of children's occupational therapy or feeding therapy, or interested to learn
Additionally, my son is very social, very verbal, very creative, and an all-around pleasure to be around. |
