We are seeking a responsible, experienced, loving, energetic nanny/mother's helper to provide 35 hours of care in our North Haven home. Because I work a rotating schedule, and my days off change every 2 weeks, we feel a live-in situation would be best. We live in a historic 2100 square foot colonial home, in a quiet, suburban neighborhood. You would have a spacious private bedroom, connected to a full bathroom. Your bedroom would be on the first floor, which is nice because our bedrooms are all upstairs, so you can have your privacy in your off-time. I work the overnight shift (11pm-7am), so a primary responsibility would be watching my 3 year old daughter during the day so I can sleep. However, she is in part-time nursery school a few days a week. My husband works four days a week, and has Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays off. He generally leaves for work around 9am, and comes home between 6-7pm. However, he is also a property manager, which takes up a lot of his time after work and on his days off. Most of your "working hours" would take place when either me or my husband are at home. What we really need is an extra set of hands to make everything run smoother. In general your work schedule will follow a set pattern. However, we will occasionally ask you to provide care so my husband and I can go to Dr. 's appointments, attend school meetings, etc. The hours we need the most help are in the evening. We are constantly rushing to fit in chores, after school activities, homework, and bath time, and still get the children to bed on time. Here is an example of how a typical day might go: Morning: Feeding the kids a quick, easy breakfast (cereal, toast, etc). Helping younger kids get dressed. Make sure all teeth are brushed. Make school lunches. During the day while older kids are at school: clean up kids breakfast, dishes. Make kids beds, straighten bedrooms, playroom. Do a load of kids laundry. Maybe defrost meat for dinner or some other kind of in advance meal prep (i. e. chop veggies). If my husband has the day off, you will be off from about 10:30am when you finish up those tasks, to 3:30pm, when the older kids get off the bus from school. If my husband is at work, you would play with the 3 year old, maybe take her to the park or the library. Evening: Help older kids with homework, or play with the 3 year old so my husband and I can help them. Assist with making dinner. Help clean up dinner, give younger kids a bath, assist with brushing/flossing teeth. I will always read the children their bedtime stories and put them to sleep, so you can count on having evenings free after about 7:30 every night. This may sound like a long day, but there will be downtime, especially on the days the little one is at preschool. A clean background, great references from previous employers, and a valid driver's license are a MUST. You do not need to have your own vehicle. We do have 2 dogs and a cat. In general we will not ask you to do animal care. However, this is not a job for someone who dislikes dogs/cats, or is allergic to them. As compensation for 35 hours of child care/housekeeping per week, we are offering room and board, plus 200$ per week. You will always get 2 full days off per week. However, they won't always be the same, and they won't always be consecutive. We will ALWAYS treat you with respect, and we can be flexible when things come up in your life that you need to attend to. Yoi will not be required to do heavy cleaning like scrubbing toilets, nor will we ask you to cook for the entire family by yourself. Just light housekeeping and simple meal prep.
